"A family residing in North London wants to find an remarkable and experienced educator to assist their most junior child on his first steps to becoming an British gentleman."
Upon seeing this listing, you might readily miss the wording "first-steps" as mere figurative language.
But, it might be the most important part of this unusual job advert, as it aims to hire a tutor for a 12-month-old.
Many of responses have since been sent in since the unnamed family advertised their request for the highly paid tutor, who has to be "a uniquely qualified person".
Over the last few weeks, the advert has attracted attention in the press, with many questioning why?
Innovative Idea
The CEO, chief executive of an education consultancy, which is supporting the family in their search, said that despite first skepticism, he found the idea "far sighted", and "advanced".
When he spoke with the family, he mentioned they recognized the atypical aspect of their request, and how immature their son is.
But, they stated that they "preferred not to postpone any longer" to engage a tutor, as they had waited until their elder sibling was five, and by that age "cultural bias had already set in".
What precisely does the family indicate by "cultural bias"?
It's "all-encompassing", he responded. "The manner you eat, how you speak".
He said the older sibling had adopted "really subtle, non-verbal cues" from the family, and had taken on their cultural habits. The family told Adam they hoped to prevent the same situation to recur with their new baby.
The plan: To engage a English tutor, who must speak with standard English accent, to influence the baby from day one.
Osmotic Learning
"Much of the learning at the start here is kind of acquired indirectly," stated Adam.
It's via this natural absorption that the family are expecting the child will pick up the UK customs they aim to impart.
He explained the tutor must be somebody who studied at "the appropriate educational institutions – comparable categories of schools as the family plan to send their son to".
"The tutor just has to be the suitable individual, they'll be performing things they don't even know they're doing, just naturally," he added.
Cost Not Relevant
The family explained to him the successful candidate should ideally also have understanding of or passion in equestrian activities, winter sports, the arts and musical activities so as to shape the child in a diverse set of passions.
Additionally though, he said the family desired the tutor to register the child on a selection of courses so the child would be "pony-riding and starting an tool by the time they are approximately three years old".
In the family's view, guiding their son develop into a "UK sophisticate" will bring about achievement and open doors.
"Considering the advantages and disadvantages of that, because it's definitely a status symbol," he comments.
However, despite all this instruction in "Britishness", would the child adopt alleged cultural influence from the multicultural family he lives with in any case?
"Yes", answered Adam. "The parents know this may not work, but they've just taken the perspective of, 'why not attempt it and we'll proceed as soon as we can', because the price of it is not relevant," he explained.
Overly Optimistic
A number of in the education sector who have similar doubts.
Another CEO, CEO and founder of a tutoring service, who also offer personal educators, commented that "the development of adopting dual cultures, or indeed, becoming oneself, is something that must be experienced personally, not designed."
He noted that he had emigrated from China to the United Kingdom at the period of seven, and had been raised understanding and embodying both cultures. He went on to learn at Cambridge University.
"The concept that one individual can serve as a living vessel of UK identity, someone who can somehow transfer the attributes of a English gentleman onto a one-year-old child, strikes me as optimistic and unrealistic," he commented.
"From my perspective, having a typically English tutor from babyhood will does not necessarily create the result they want.
"I wasn't provided with such a tutor, and however I have been privileged enough to live numerous of the situations they aspire for their son."
He stated: "The truth is, cultural identity should not be imposed from the outside influences; it must be selected, and it must originate internally."
Purchasing UK Culture
Certainly, English culture is something Adam believes can be instructed – and sold.
"In my view the situation that the world views us in this light is something that we should be cherishing|valuing|appreciating
