The anticipation about The Game Awards was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team is likely building a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
