Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
